Week in Review: 5/1- 5/5

We had such a fun – filled week! We started a new math unit on clocks, began our family study in social studies and had a Donut Dance Party for Miss M’s last day on Friday. We also have a new way to check in during morning jobs….ask your first grader how they now check in for lunch:)

Reading- We continue to rotate 3 times in stations. Groups changed slightly after progress report assessments were complete, but students still rotate 3 times each day. Read to Self, Teacher Time, Spelling, Writing, iPad and Listening to Reading are the 6 stations we rotate through every 2 days.

Writing- We are finishing our Poetry Unit. Students have been learning different types of poem- free verse, acrostic, shape, and cinquain.

Math- We started Unit 7- Geometry, Measurement and Equal Shares.  We learned about time to the hour and 1/2 hour, using both analog and digital clocks.

Science- We have been learning about parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves, flower) and have been observing our seeds.

Social Studies- We formed our “families” and were given supplies to build our homes.  StoryPath: Families in our Neighborhoods is a curriculum that allows student to role play and solve problems within their family and neighborhood.
